About the Grand National Carnival
The Grand National Racing Carnival provides a mix of flat and jumping races.
The feature is undoubtedly the energy sapping FMG NZ Grand National Steeplechase, in which the field travels 5600 metres and jumps 21 of the toughest fences in the country.
New Zealand’s best winter flat gallopers compete for Group 3 glory in the prestigious Aussie Brownes Pharmacies Winter Cup over the 1600 metre distance.
The best horses in all classes are drawn from the length and breadth of the country to compete for the rich stakes offered.
This Carnival is one of the most important, successful and showcase meetings of the New Zealand racing scene. (And it shares the occasion with other Winter Events in Christchurch city.)
