About the NZ International Jazz and Blues Festival
Welcome to the 2010 New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival. Another year of great music and great performances from some international and national acts, and fantastic shows from some of our local stars.
The Press Headliner Series welcomes Australian jazz great James Morrison, back by popular demand, this time paying tribute to Louis Armstrong, UK jazz and blues legend Brian Auger brings his Blues Oblivion show, Newton Faulkner, hot British talent comes straight to Christchurch from an Australian tour and our own local blues and roots talent pool, headed by Harry Harrison, presents ‘Diggin’ the Roots’.
Our always popular Cavell Leitch Law Jazz in the Hall Series features an eclectic programme of shows including a piano duet with Doug Caldwell and Gerard Masters, Seattle jazz trumpet master Thomas Marriott, a tribute to Eva Cassidy from Jennine Bailey, a night with one of the best voices in New Zealand – Mark Vanilau, Naomi Ferguson with a tribute to Etta James show and Swing 42 with special guest Daniel Weltlinger (Aust).
For those of you in the mood for a little funk and some great soul sounds, check out our programme in the Bedford with shows by Leila Adu (supported by Nick Gaffaney), LA Mitchell, Auckland’s Grand Central Band, Mundi and our own Sacha Vee and Oval Office.
The Festival’s Jazz City Series continues with Australian jazz band Utopia Collective at the Christchurch Casino’s Grand Café and Wellington singer Andrea Cook and Rayna Creagh at the Millennium Hotel. The Festival’s outdoor music and food event TASTE JAZZ expands and moves to a new outdoor venue. Don’t miss TASTE BLUES/TASTE JAZZ at Poplar Lane the weekend of 10 & 11 April from 11am to 5pm.
