About the Waipara Valley Wine and Food Festival

Purchase your tickets now for only $20 to the Waipara Wine & Food Festival on Saturday 6th March, 2010 and go in the draw to win one night at the Braemar Lodge in a spa suite including breakfast for two. Plus two adult passes to the award winning Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa and a hamper pack including Bellbird extra virgin olive oil – Fruttato Verde 2009 250ml, some Rachel Scott bread and two bottles of Waipara Vally Wine. This offer closes 5pm, Friday 26th February.

The Festival has a new name, new date and new opening time. On the 6th March at 11am on the historic, St Paul Glenmark Church grounds, situated on State Highway 1 just north of Waipara, you will find the Biggest, Little, Best Wine and Food Festival in the Country.

Not only can you really let your hair down, with Sunday to recover, but the headline act; the well known ‘Warratahs’ will be sure to make the place rock. Other performers include; Black Velvet, The Vague As Brothers, Jamiesons, Funky Hot Mummas, Dr Sanchez and Jess Chambers. With excellent growing conditions and an influx of producers, Waipara is stepping out of New Zealand’s shadow straight into the spotlight. Waipara is the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand with around 80 vineyards. “Canterbury’s stunning Waipara region is one of the unsung heroes of the wine industry”, Bob Campbell MW, October 2004, Air New Zealand Inflight Magazine. The ‘Terrior’ combined with the long hot autumn period helps produce unique, richer and spicier Pinot Noir and Rieslings- the regional specialties. Other varieties to note include Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

It has been quoted that “festivals are social sustaining devices through which people express identities connect with their place and communicate with the outside world.” The Waipara wine and food festival is a day to indulge in some North Canterbury wine and cuisine, in a stunning rural backdrop. The celebration commences with a Church Service to thank God for the harvest (of wine).
