About Garden City SummerTimes

Summer has officially arrived and while the calendar year may come to a close in December, the city comes alive to the sights and sounds of Garden City SummerTimes.

Every year, the Christchurch City Council coordinates an exciting programme of events and 2009-10 is certainly no different. This year’s programme will see key feature events return, including the much-anticipated New Year’s Eve celebrations, ASB Classical Sparks, Anthony Harper Lawyers’ Summer Theatre, Tip Top Kite Day and the PGA Golf, just to name a few.

The streets will once again come to life in January when local and international performers show their amazing skills as part of the World Buskers Festival. And for five days in March, North Hagley Park will be home to the second Christchurch-based Ellerslie International Flower Show.

Garden City SummerTimes also highlights Christchurch’s diversity with events celebrating a wide range of cultures, from the Chinese Lantern Festival and Waitangi Day to the always popular Culture Galore.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in events and activities in your local community when our Summer in the Suburbs events kick into gear in the New Year. From Global Football to Dancing Under the Stars, there will no better way to enjoy summer in our fantastic parks and gardens.

Keep an eye out for your copy of the Garden City SummerTimes brochure, which will be delivered to your door from 11 December. The brochure will be your complete events guide so keep it handy to ensure you don’t miss any of the excitement that is summer.
